Modern Vision Wins MMA Title - 2009-06-30

Saturday June 20, 2009, Lima Ohio -- Phantom Fight Explosion VI: Canada VS. USA "Animal" Andrew Cseh, Matt "The Cat" DiMarcantonio, Eric "Atomic" Attard and "Slippery" Kevin Johnston left with coaches Chris Bonfoco and David Medd Friday June 19th, 2009 on a Mission to Destroy the American the following evening. After a gruelling 90 day training camp the only thing left to do was to face their opponents.

After a 7 hour drive and 3.5 Rocky's on the drive the boys arrived excited and ready to rumble. Staying at Lima's Windgate by Windham Hotel which is connected to Convention Centre where the fights were being held. After unpacking the boys headed straight to the convention centre where the cage and chairs were being assembled  for the show the following evening. A quick hot-tub, weight check and 3 hours of Kevin's UFC dvd's later it was time for bed.

While the fighters slept the coaches decided to round up some fans in this hostile territory. Chris and Dave walked the streets and found an Irish pub where they spent a good 5 hours and managed to gain some fans for the boys. We're very strict when it comes to PR you know.

The Day of the fights ...

After a slow start to the morning for Chris and Dave as a result of their fan recruiting from the previous evening the fighters were excited and ready to fight. Nerves were hardly an issue as each fighter felt completely prepared for the event.

3pm Weigh ins: this was the first opportunity for the fighters to see their opponents up-close and personal. As each weighed-in their confidence grew as it was becoming obvious that the Vision training camp had been apparently more effective than the American opponents.

5:30pm Rules clinic was concluded and the American faces were proving to show nerves as the Vision Machine's solidarity and professionalism was beginning to shine through.

7:15pm the Phantom Sports 135lbs champion predicts a sweep for the American fighters ... I wonder what he will predict when he faces "Animal" Andrew Cseh in the future ...

7:55pm First fight for Team Canada and Modern Vision "Slippery" Kevin Johnston vs. Aaron Chapman. After exchanging blows early on Chapman scores a takedown. Once on his back Johnston sees the opportunity for the triangle choke and it is locked in when Chapman decides to slam Johnston. Kevin wins by Triangle choke at 1:30 of round 1 ... Canada leads 1-0

8:10pm Second fight for Team Canada and Modern Vision
"Animal" Andrew Cseh vs. Bobby Wright. Wright throws a punch at Cseh. Cseh returns, rushes Wright up against the fence an slams him hard to the canvas. Immediately Cseh passes to mount and begins a brutal ground and pound that ends  81 punches later by TKO at 1:44 of round 1 ... Canada Leads 2-0

8:20pm Third fight for Team Canada and only fight not represented by Modern Vision Bryan Ernst vs. Brian Littlefield. Ernst controlled the first round by nearly closing a rear naked choke. In the second Ernst controlled the stand-up match while Littlefield began to look like he no longer wanted to fight. The same occured in the third round as the referee had enough and called a stoppage at 2:33 of round 3 ... Canada wins the cup and leads 3-0

8:45pm Fourth fight for Team Canada and Third for Modern Vision
Matt "The Cat" DiMarcantonio vs. Erik Lehmkuhle. DiMarcantonio's energy was infectious as he entered the cage and his opponent look across intimidated and nervous. DiMarcantonio began the round with explosive kicks and speedy ring control. Lehmkuhle threw bombs but none were even close. Then came "Cat MODE ..." With a beautiful Body Drop DiMarcantonio landed in mount and began a relentless ground and pound. Lehmkuhle quickly turned his back to avoid the onslaught of punishment to come. DiMarcantonio then closed the rear naked choke causing Lehmkuhle to tap out at 1:49 of round one. Canada Leads 4-0 will it be a sweep.

DiMarcantonio's post fight front flip and entertaining nature made him a fan favouite and earned him a few interesting autographs after the fight.

9pm Fifth fight for Team Canada and Fourth for Modern Vision
Eric "Atomic" Attard vs. Niccolas Rados
Attard entered the cage excited and ready to get out the brooms with a Canadian sweep while his opponent Niccolas Rados showed clear signs of anxiety as he had withnessed four of his American brethren take the wrath of the Canadian fighters. Right from the bell Attard pushed the pace setting up a clean leg kick and once Rados felt Attard's punching power he immediately showed disinterest in trading punches with Attard. Attard landed some bombs which Rados decided to clinch and take Attard to the mat. While trapped in Attard's guard Rados freed an arm which only set-up a devastating tight armbar which caused Rados to tap almost immediately. Attard wins by armbar at 1:50 of round 1. GET OUT THE BROOMS CANADA SWEEPS 5-0.

After the fights photos were taken the trophy was handed out and our Pizza Party began ... to say the least the drive home was slow and quiet from all the pizza at the after party, and took 23 IN-AGA-NEVITAS to get back home.

"Hey guys remember that time when ..."

This was a True Vision Invasion of the USA
