MMA Results & BJJ Results - 2009-11-28

Niagara's Dominant MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team continues to crush the competition. On one amazing weekend Modern Vision managed to fight a battle on two fronts and come away victorious.

The weekend onf November 28-29 this Niagara Mixed Martial Arts school had four fighters fighting at the MMA promotion from Extreme Fight Club's Beatings on the Bay in Erie Pennsylvania as well as sending 20 athletes to the Ontario Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Toronto.

First up: the MMA Fights in Erie PA:

With two of the four fighters from Modern Vision fighting in the Main Event and Co-Main event it was bound to be a wild night. Here are the highlights:

Eric "Atomic" Attard 2-0 (Modern Vision/Team Ascension) vs. Tony Valera 0-1 (AMA Fight Club/Renzo Gracie) Welterweight (170lbs)

Attards focus and attention was infectious as his opponent looked intimidated before the walkout. Valera, a Muay Thai expert and instructor nervously looked across the cage at Attard while Attard was focus and ready to drop some bombs.

Right off the bell the fighters touched gloves and Attard lands a hard "Atomic" right hand which stumbles Valera. Quickly, Attard pounces onto Valera's back and sinks in a vicious rear naked choke ending the fight 7 seconds into round 1.

"Atomic" Attard improves to 3-0.

Sierra "The Mad Squirrel" Picton 0-0 (Modern Vision/ Team Ascension) vs Grace Norfolk 0-0 (Jiu-Jitsu Nation).

Both female fighters looked focused and ready to fight right from the warm-ups. Although Modern Vision/Team Ascension is very focussed on BJJ it would be Picton's superior striking that would rule the fight.

Round 1

Picton storms out and lands combination after combination on Norfolk. Norfolk shows no interest in keeping this fight stand as she attempted takedown after takedown while recieving a beating. However, despite being taken down Picton kept superior position and escaped several desperate submission attempts while unleasing an intense ground and pound.

Round 2

Picton continued to batter Norfolk with combinations and Norfolk continued to attempt takedowns and make it a ground fight. Neither woman was backing off or showing any signs of quit but it was Picton time and time again who got the better of each exchange.

Round 3

Norfolk was showing physical signs of damage from Picton's striking attack as her nose was bloodied and blackeyes were emerging. To Norfolk's credit she continued to fight, not backing off. Picton contued to hammer Norfolk as the third round ended.

Picton wins by unanimous decision.
