 Team Ascension Explodes into 2012

Saturday January 21, 2011, Cleveland Ohio,  Brendan Fang of Wainfleet and Chris Jurgensen of Vineland travelled to Cleveland Ohio with MMA Coach Chris Bonfoco to showcase their skills at Rocktagon MMA’s Amateur Elite 12 event and outshined their opponents. For Jurgensen it was his debut match while for Fang it was his third fight.

Jurgensen who faced Karate expert Steve Chapple and armed with an unorthodox fight plan quickly disposed of Chapple but taking him to the ground and submitting Chapple at one minute 40 seconds into the first round. “We wanted to get this fight to ground as quickly as possible to neutralize Chapple’s attack. Chris followed the fight plan to a ‘T’ and came home with an quick Victory,” says Jurgensen’s MMA Trainer Chris Bonfoco of Team Ascension Niagara (Team Ascension Niagara consists of Modern Vision MMA of Welland and Muay Thai Niagara of St. Catharines).

Fang was next up for Team Ascension versus Chris Goins of Cincinatti Ohio and he finished the night keeping the team undefeated for the evening with a second round submission victory via a rear naked choke. The fight started with Goins attempting a superman punch. Fang blocked the punch and slamed Goins to the mat where Fang unleashed a vicious ground and pound attack wearing Goins down throughout the round.

The second round started exactly the same; however, this time Fang worked his way to Goins’ back and finished Goins with the rear naked choke. “Fang beasted on Goins from start to finish of that match. After the first round we knew it was just a matter of time before Goins would give in to Fang’s attack,” said Fang’s Coach Chris Bonfoco.

Chris Bonfoco of Welland and Roger Lumyoung of St. Catharines coach Team Ascension Niagara MMA out of Welland’s Modern Vision MMA and St. Catharines’ Muay Thai Niagara.
