Welland MMA Fighter Earns Fans and Gains Support on National TV Despite Controversial Loss

October 29, 2011 Gatineau Quebec, “Animal” Andrew Cseh of Welland got his first taste of National TV as he battled Ottawa’s Randy Turner in an action packed three round MMA fight. Cseh, who shockingly lost by a split decision earned the respect of the crowd, the commentators and the thousands watching live on thescore.com.

The decision was a controversial one as even the local fighter and Cseh’s opponent, Randy Turner, looked surprised when the ring announcer announced Turner as the winner. Cseh, who clearly controlled the majority of the fight and appeared to dominate both the first and third rounds was worried as soon as the announcer said it was a split decision. “When he said it was a split decision I was surprised but I just thought to myself ‘there is no way two judges could have scored this match for Turner,’

But they did and it was heartbreaking,” Cseh commented. “That’s why they say don’t leave it to the judges but I am happy with my performance. My coaches are happy with my performance and my friends and family are happy with my performance and all know I won that fight. That’s what matters most,” he continued

“The fight will be aired on The Score Television Network within the next two weeks and we encourage all of you to watch the fight. Andrew made us proud and when the rest of Welland sees it they will be proud of their fellow Wellander,” says Cseh’s MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coach Chris Bonfoco of Modern Vision MMA and Team Ascension.

Fight Breakdown:

Round One:

Cseh drops Turner early with a straight right hand. Stuffs a Turner takedown attempt and proceeds to control Turner against the fence. Cseh takes Turner down against the fence, passes Turners guard and proceeds to mount Turner. Turner rolls to his back as Cseh takes Turner’s back and strikes Turner while looking for a rear-naked choke. Turner returns to his feet and and jumps to the mat attempting to shake cseh from his back but is unsuccessful. The fighters separate and return to the feet. Cseh forces Turner to the fence where the round ended.

Round Two:

Turner begins the round looking stronger in the stand-up game backing Cseh to the fence. Cseh Turns Turner to the fence and controls Turner against the fence while Cseh lands short strikes and knees. The referee separates them and the two men begin to exchange blows with Turner gaining the edge by landing a head kick; however, Cseh is unfazed and traps Turner to the fence again and lands several knees visibly causing damage to Turner.

Round Three:

The round begins with Cseh picking Turner apart as they exchange blows with Cseh landing nearly all his strikes. Turner is backed up to the fence where Cseh once again takes Turner to the mat passes his guard mounts him, takes his back and looks to submit Turner again. Turner again returns to his feet and jumps to his back in an attempt to shake Cseh off his back. Cseh slips off and attempts an armbar and triangle choke from his guard on Turner; however Turner escapes and both men return to their feet. Cseh continues his dominance as he punches Turner back to the fence opening a large cut over Turner’s right eye with a left hook. The two men lock-up against the fence as the third round ends.

Cseh trains and instructs at Modern Vision MMA which has two locations in Welland (Seway Mall and 601 Southworth St.) and operates the MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs at Muay Thai Niagara at the Linwell Plaza in St. Catharines. The three schools make up Team Ascension Niagara.
